Students with Special Needs

Under Act 245/2008 Coll., students with special educational needs are those whose individual needs necessitate special treatment, content, methods, and approaches in education.

Students included in this group are:

  1. Students with health disabilities – students with physical disabilities, students who are sick or with poor health, students with developmental disorders affecting activity and attention, and students with behavioural disorders
  2. Students from socially disadvantaged backgrounds – students living in an environment with regard to social, family, economic and cultural conditions that insufficiently stimulate the development of mental, volitional and emotional qualities under-encouraging the development of his or her personality.
  3. Talented and intellectually gifted students – students with above average abilities in intellectual areas, in the arts or in sports as compared with their peers, so as to fully and meaningfully develop their abilities.

One of the goals of our school is to foster a student-understanding of empathy, meaning the student should perceive the diversity of the people around us and to accept those differences. In pursuing this objective, students play a considerable role learning to operate in the classroom together, respecting each other, as well as cooperating with and assisting fellow students who have special educational needs. On the other hand, we realize this idea is demanding for the teacher.  Upon consideration of several factors, the school management has decided that Narnia will be open, assuming certain conditions are met, to the acceptance of one student with special educational needs in every class.
