Cooperation With Parents
According to our surveys, the average child spends at least seven hours a day at school, essentially influencing the student’s thinking, feelings, and attitudes. His or her education is substantially influenced by the school’s rules and beliefs. However, the parents make the final decision about the educational methods and they bear the responsibility for their child’s education.
It is for these reasons that we consider the targeted work with the parents to be necessary and we try our best to develop the relationship: school – parents – student.
Familiarity with the Educational Process
It is important to us that parents are familiar with the quality of education our school provides before we enroll their child. Therefore, in the period before enrollment, we offer the possibilities for individual meetings with the school’s management and educators. Both parents and preschoolers can observe lessons, school club, or musical performances. As such, students can also watch the English musical and language lessons so that they can observe the level of English being taught.
A part of the enrollment process is a questionnaire, completed by the parents, which defines the basic features of the educational system while also providing necessary feedback for both parents and the school management.
Parents’ Meetings
The first parent meeting in the school year always takes place during the first week of school. The parents are familiarized with the working plan of the school year, with essential information about their child’s class, with changes in the way the school functions from the previous year, etc. Parent meetings are usually held twice a term.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-Teacher conferences are individual meetings between the teachers and parents of each child. Meetings are initiated by the class teachers and occur at least once during a half term. The Creative English teacher usually participates in meetings as well. At the meetings, parents and teachers speak about the results and needs of the child. They jointly seek methods for further incentives to encourage the child and develop his or her potential, which is the goal of the meeting. It is also possible to examine the ways to solve problematic behavior or various special and educational needs the child may have.
Parties
The party’s program (a meeting of the families from one or more of the classes) is prepared by the students and teachers. It is comprised mainly of performances demonstrating something the children have learned at school. Some aspects of the parties include games, competitions, and various creative activities, which allow parents and siblings to participate with their children. The gatherings are always a non-formal atmosphere, complete with the refreshments, getting to know each other, and other friendly exchanges. They occur two to four times throughout the school year. If agreed on by the parents, the parties can be held outside of school such as sporting events or campfires.
School Board
Parents have the possibility to contribute their ideas and get involved in important school decisions by serving as one of two representatives in the school board. Parent representatives are elected for a 4 year term.
